Who can get a grant?
California residents that live in a disadvantage community (DAC)
We verify residency using your valid California Driver’s License or AB60 License.
*Disadvantaged communities are determined using CalEnviroScreen (https://oehha.ca.gov/calenviroscreen/report/calenviroscreen-40). Classification is based on community exposure and vulnerability to pollution, among other factors.
…with a qualifying household income…
We verify your gross annual household income using your federal tax return or tax transcript. If you didn’t file taxes, we can still work with you.
…who complete our online application…
This process, which includes income verification and program education requirements, can take three months or longer, depending on how quickly you complete each step and our processing times.
…and receive an Approval Letter through email.
You must receive an Approval Letter BEFORE you purchase a vehicle. We do not offer rebates and you cannot redeem a grant if you have purchased a vehicle before being approved.

*Household size and its members is defined by the CVA Program as the claimant, spouse, and/or dependent(s) listed by name and SSN on the applicant’s 1040 federal tax return or the 1040 federal tax return they are listed on. If you did not file taxes or are not listed on someone’s federal tax return, household members are defined as those individuals who would typically be considered a claimant, spouse, and/or dependent(s), or group of individuals who are living together at the same address as one economic unit. In multi-family units, exclude any occupant(s) living in the same unit that are not a part of your family and/or do not contribute economically.
