Waitlist in Effect for Clean Vehicle Grants

Saturday December 15, 2018

The Clean Vehicle Assistance Program closed applications on November 20th, 2018 and created a waitlist. We received a much higher volume of applications than expected (over two thousand!). Since we have limited funding available, we are currently working with existing applicants only.

We treat all applications equally and follow a first come first serve process. We cannot guarantee funding will be available for everyone with interest in the program. Additional funding is not guaranteed, but if funds become available we will open applications and hope to provide clean vehicle grants to many more Californians.

The Waitlist

We guarantee that funding will be available to every applicant with an Approval Letter for 35 days.

For every approval letter we send out, we reserve $5,000 to guarantee that the individual can redeem a CVA Program grant if they choose to. Approvals are good for 35 days.

If an approved participant does not redeem a grant, or redeems a grant less than $5,000, the remaining funds become available for the next applicant on the waitlist.

We send Approval Packets to qualified participants who have completed their applications on a first come, first serve basis. This means the first person to complete their application after the cutoff of November 20th will be reviewed first, and we will move people off the waitlist in the order that applications were completed.

If you want to learn more about your next steps and you are currently working on an application, have received and Approval Letter, or hope to participant in the CVA Program in the future, read on:

I am a current applicant, but I have not received an Approval Letter:

If you have completed your application and are waiting to hear from us, it means you are on the waitlist. It could take up to three months for us to process the current waitlist. Thank you for your patience!

If you have not yet completed your application, we encourage you to continue working on it. We review completed applications on a first come, first serve basis. Once you have completed your application it will be placed on the waitlist for review as funds become available. We cannot guarantee that funds will be available for all current applicants, but the sooner you complete your application, the more likely it will be that your application will be reviewed and approved while funds are remaining. Incomplete applications will expire after 90 days. If your application expires you will need to begin a new application.

I have received an Approval Letter:

If you receive an Approval Letter, grant funds will be held for you for 35 days from the date on your Approval Letter.

You can redeem the grant by purchasing a qualifying clean vehicle from a CVA Program network dealership and following all program guidelines. Please read the documents in your Approval Packet before purchasing your clean vehicle to learn more about the program requirements and which vehicles are eligible.

I hope to apply in the future:

If additional funding becomes available, we will have a notice on our website no later than March 1st, 2019 about when we can start taking new applications again.

Thank you for your interest in the CVA Program! We are working on getting additional funding for providing clean vehicle grants and loans. We hope to open applications again soon, but nothing is guaranteed.
